The Overlord is the player who rules the province. While the overlord does not own the entire province, he has feudal rights therein. He can tax all the fiefs in the province.

Bailiff ID: Who is running this fief. The owner may run it himself, spending 30 days to do so, or may assign an NPC to do it full time. In either case, the player or NPC ID number appears here. If no id number appears, then the fief is run by the auto-bailiff.

Auto-Bailiff: The "auto-bailiff mode maintains equilibrium in the fief, assuming no external disasters, like pillage, or plague. The tax levels are raised only to a level that will provide sufficient income to keep key fief indicators (loyalty, keep, infrastructure, etc.) level. There is some surplus, but there is also a fair amount of graft, so you won't have much surplus from a fief run by the diligent, but larcenous, auto-bailiff. Auto-bailiff is a form of democratic self-government, which may explain why the nobility was so hostile to democracy.
