Notes: Il Marchese Teodoro is the second son of His Greatness, Emperor Andronicus II of Constantinople. Don Teodoro was granted Montferrat in 1306, it being his mother's in her own right as last heiress to the ancient house of the marquisate. Author of "Instructions and Directions for a Lord Who Has Wars to Wage and Governing to Do", the Marquis is an accomplished soldier and administrator. He is also uncle of the Byzantine Emperor Andronicus III, who is married to Princess Anna of Savoy.
